The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A cloudy day. I done the breakfast etc. Carmen came and did what she had to do. She got ready and went to Lewiston. I thought she was going to get my groceries but she didn’t. She went to town and got them down here. Bro went down to Carmen’s after she got off the bus. Betty went up and got her. She was down there for supper. She left Cameron here while she went to town. He was good, watched TV. Carmen got Bro a new jacket today. Betty isn’t very good. I’m worried about her. Dorothea took Betty to see Dr. Gordon. He told her glasses wouldn’t do her good. They did their shopping.

I paid Tom $60 plowing. I paid Betty’s birthday gift. Made an appointment for Cassie. Carmen came, did her work, also made out some bills for me. Paid Betty for flowers. Carmen got the lunches. She and Kim gone to do the swimming for health or weight. Tonight Billie got pizza for supper. I had Italian sandwich. It was very good. Also they all liked the pizza very much. I didn’t do much today as usual. It was a nice sunny day, on the mild side.

A nasty day. A busy day. I cleaned my pots and pans, they are so old and worn they don’t come out looking too well. Well it isn’t too good whether, it is snowing and a promise of getting about 6 to 8 inches. Dorothea gone to the airport to pick up Susan coming from Esthers. It was a bad day for traveling. Dorothea went into the ditch. Had to be pulled out. No damage or didn’t hurt her car. They got home from there about 5:30. Brought KFC. A very good supper. Betty Smith enjoyed it all very much. Got a dite shook up in the ditch. Betty a dite better.
