The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 15 - 18, 1993

 

Monday, November 15, 1993

 

A dreary day, cloudy and rainy. Carmen came and did her work. I mailed Esther’s letter. Carmen came again and cleaned up the house. Cameron is a very active and cute. Carmen got to go to work tonight at 11 to 7 tomorrow. Dorothea working at Simpsons today. I watched soaps in p.m. Billie over to the Dr. in North Bridgton for a appointment. Therapy. Rodney Williams came and fixed the bathroom and the faucet in bathroom. Walt didn’t come for supper.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 16, 1993

 

Nice and sunny. David down this morning. Carmen came early. Brud made a call this morning. He has been getting his place ready for the winter. I read some more magazines today. Carmen here a little while today. She slept this forenoon for a little while.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 17, 1993

 

Well I didn’t do much today as usual. Carmen came, she went and done the shopping. They cleaned the well at Walt’s. I had Cameron while Carmen helped in the well cleanout. I’m glad they got it done. Billie to the doctor for his therapy at North Bridgton today. A very bad accidents on Route 302, four cars involved. One high school senior killed.

 

 

 

Thursday, November 18, 1993

 

A nice sunny day. Carmen and Cameron came this morning. She went home and came back and got the mail. I got the chicken ready to go into the oven. Kim came about noon, got the chicken ready to go into the oven. Zak came and I asked him to come for supper. He did. Kim came and cooked the supper. It was very good. Tom was here too. It seemed good to have them here. We don’t see them very much.
