The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, December 7, 1993

 

Well when we got up it was snowing. I hate it. David came for coffee. Tonight Betty, Carmen and I went to see Brogan Alyssa Horton and her brownies entertainment at the Catholic church. It was very nice. I’m so pleased I could go. I loved it so much. Today I did lot of cards, hope to finish them tomorrow. Carmen left Cameron here while she went and got a new CALF. Zak and Arnold hauled bedding. Betty got the supper tonight.

 

 

 

Wednesday, December 8, 1993

 

Well it has been cloudy, some sun once in a while. Carmen came and done the shopping. Then she went to the bank also. Betty took Billie to the dentist again to have his teeth checked then she and Walt went to Norway to shop. Zak didn’t come home today. He had to get his things from his apartment in Portland. Betty got me some plugs and balls.

 

 

 

Thursday, December 9, 1993

 

Clear in a.m., in p.m. it began to get cloudy. Carmen came and did her work. She and Betty to Lewiston to get Carmen’s hair done. She worked last night so she was so tired. She is working tonight. Today Dan Knox came to check me today. Betty came and got supper tonight. She had Brogan. Cameron went down to Walt’s and both kids are at Betty’s tonight.

 

 

 

Friday, December 10, 1993

 

A cloudy dark day. Carmen came, done Billie, changed the beds. She had worked all night and was so tired. She didn’t get the cleaning done. Zak came, he went down, got me some stamps. Dorothea came, she got me some stamps also got the supper and done my hair. Brogan here tonight for the night.
