The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Dorothea and David going to Vermont today to visit his 100-year-old grandmother. It was quite nice during the first part of the day. Later in p.m. it got cloudy and at about supper time it rained. Carmen came and did her things this morning. Marianne, Billie’s therapist came. Carmen went home to do her cleaning. She got her living room done. But in forenoon she went to town and did my grocery shopping. And to the bank, cashed the checks and paid the bills. CAMERON VERY SICK BOY ALL DAY. I think he should see a doctor.

Today we had a good amount of rain. It rained hard all day. I have been laid up today. Didn’t do anything, not even get the paper’s read. Carmen came, she did the work, cleaned up the whole house. Dorothea came this p.m. She got Billie’s supper. I didn’t eat. Well Walt, Arnold and Zak are on their way home today. I hope they have good luck from this trip. Got home at 4:30 AM. They were exhausted.

A beautiful day, sunny all day. David came for coffee. Carmen did her work. Betty called this morning. Also Zak up this morning, he fixed my watch. Went to town, got me some grapefruit. Billie mowed the lawns today because it is supposed to rain and snow tonight so Jason won’t be able to do them. Betty, Carmen and Arnold are working at the barn getting it ready for the winter.
