The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, November 26, 1993

 

A quite nice day. I didn’t do much as usual. Carmen came and did some work and then went away. Came back, did a dite more. Then she went with Betty and Pat. Dorothea came and got the supper tonight. Betty and Pat came. Pat brought me some Christmas decorations. Very pretty, also a box of chocolate, they were very good too. BJ came with Carmen.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 27, 1993

 

It was sunny in am then it got cloudy. Carmen came and did her morning chores that she went to Norway to shop on the early-morning sale. Then she came and done the housework. BJ gave me a school picture of her, very nice. Brogan came then went down to her Grammys. I didn’t do much today.

 

 

 

Sunday, November 28, 1993

 

A heavy rain all day, also high winds in p.m. A lot of damage. Walt up for coffee. Also Zac called in. Susan came for a minute in late p.m. Then Dorothea came and got the supper. It was a very good one. I looked at papers and magazines today. Carmen came and did her chores. Kim very sick also Cameron.

 

 

 

Monday, November 29, 1993

 

A very nice sunny clear day after the steady heavy rain we had yesterday all day. There was a lot of damaging rains, winds and flooding. We needed the rain and so thankful to get it. I got up early this morning. Carmen came and did her work. Did a wash. Carmen took care of them. I got Es letter off. Brogan sick tonight. Betty and Zak up and got the supper tonight. Carmen and Betty to North Windham shopping this p.m.
