The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Cloudy, heavy rain and snow. No school today etc. I done regular work, still can’t talk. I’ll be glad when this is over. The war news is doing okay. So much to do to get back in order.

Sunny day. I wrote a letter to Esther. Also wrote out the store list. Betty cameup, also Brogan, went to sleep. Had a good nap. Carmen down and did the shopping. Also done the dogs up to Tom and Charlene’s. Betty and Dorothea here this p.m. and they both had a hand in getting supper. Dorothea stayed and got the dishes washed. Carmen and Betty took Billie Joe and got her some new clothes that fit her and clean. Also took her to McDonald’s for supper. Brogan went too.

A miserable rainy day. All day cloudy and dreary. At times it rained very hard. I took a bath and got ready and went to the doctor to get help for my throat. Blood pressure high, he gave me medicine for that and my throat. I’ll be glad when I get over this mess. Carmen cooked a very good chicken dinner. Had Betty and Walt up. A most delicious meal. Dorothea here this p.m. Dr. Petrone is who I went to see.
