The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 26 - 29, 1991

Tuesday, March 26, 1991

Well at last we have sunshine today. It seems so good. We got David’s cards off today. I wrote Esther and Zac. Carm and Bro came. Carmen got the supper. Betty prepared it, very good. She has a bad cold now. She is doing okay on her housecleaning. This snow piled up didn’t help. I still can’t talk. Dorothea called in late p.m. This turned out to be a very nice sunny mild day.

Sunny most of the forenoon. It clouded up in p.m. then it cleared again. Carmen went and done the shopping. Betty called a little while.

Thursday, March 28, 1991 NEW CARS, DAVID’S BIRTHDAY

A great day. I didn’t do much. I cleaned the desk draws and the filing cabinet in my bedroom. I wish I could get around faster. Got the cleaning started. Betty is held up now. Kim and Tom called, glad to see them. Well today two new cars came to the family today. Betty and Walt bought a brand-new Subaru at Steve Reynolds Motors. Then in all that Carmen bought Betty’s car, a Subaru. Kim has a new card too so they are all set.

A fair day. Awful windy. I washed and ironed. I cleaned the draws in the bathroom and cupboard. I couldn’t get down to see the cupboard under the sink. Carmen came and cleaned today. Betty still has a hoarse voice, mine is still rough. Dorothea called this evening.
