The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 30 - April 1, 1991 Easter


Saturday, March 30, 1991

 

Cloudy when we got up. David came this morning and had coffee. David has a bad cold. Billie and Jason took the lawnmower over to be checked over for the summer. We didn’t do much of anything. Betty came and got me, we went for a ride in the new car. Carmen had to go to work today at 3 PM. Betty, Walt and Brogan here for supper. Betty got it and washed the dishes. Betty putting pills, breathing apparatuses to me today.

 

 

 

Sunday, March 31, 1991 A VERY NICE EASTER

 

Easter Sunday. A very nice sunny day, on the cold side. Walt up this morning for coffee. I took a bath. A very good Easter gift is having Zack with us. He looks very good. At Kim’s for the dinner. Tom’s 87-year-old grandfather, his mother, Walt, Betty, Zack, Carmen, Brogan, Betty S, Arnold, Nicholas, Billie Joe and me. Dorothea called in PM. A very nice dinner and enjoyable day at Kim and Tom’s. Most delicious ham, spinach, mashed potatoes, carrots, onions, Harvard Beets, hot cross buns, regular rolls.

A quite nice day. A lot of sun. Well Carmen came, we got the closet and drawers done in Billie’s bedroom. Charlene was here. Betty called also. Carmen had to go to work at 11 PM till tomorrow at 7 AM. Dorothea here today. She also done all of Billie’s paperwork.
