The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

At last we have had a nice sunny day. I worked at the desk this a.m. Carmen and Brogan came. She got the store list. Then Brogan got ready for company, Leeanna Martin. Carmen came in p.m., got a good supper, all of her meals are very good. A delicious apples pie and also a blueberry pie the other night. Betty called in p.m. She showed me or us her new glasses. I’m so glad she has got them. Also Dorothea came and showed us the gift she made for Kim’s birthday. Today Jason came and cleaned the barn for Billie. Today Billie’s speech therapist came today for the last time.

Very nice sunny day. Today David went to Lewiston for x-rays. Couldn’t get them so he has got to go back Wednesday. He is getting worse all the time. Billie got awful tired. Betty called this p.m. Also Carmen took me up to see her new couch. It is beautiful. I hope it won’t get dirty. She has a good supper as usual. Dorothea called in evening for a little while. She brought something to show me. I miss seeing Zac. I hope he is okay. I’d love to know where he is and what he is doing. No matter what I love him to no end. I wish him the very best in his life. It is very upsetting.
