The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Dorothea and Carmen did the rest of the bedrooms. They look so nice. I did washing and a big ironing.  I’ll be glad when it is all cleaned. It is hard work. Betty Smith and I helped Betty H do her china closets this forenoon. Carmen did the shopping.

Dorothea and Carmen here, they did some more cleaning. The living room. Carmen did the china closet and corner cupboard. Kim finished rest of the ceiling. Dorothea did rest of the living room. She did a very good job. It looks very nice. I’m very pleased to get it done. Carmen did a lot errands than to work.

 

 

 

Friday, April 12, 1991 KIMBERLEY ALLIE HORTON

 

Today Kim turned 25 years. Her fiancé took her out and then out for dinner. A cold day. Well today I got the back porch all done. Dorothea did it. Carmen came in forenoon, cleaned the back bathroom and finished up the lower cupboards in the kitchen then she had to go away. The back porch looks nice.

 

 

 

Saturday, April 13, 1991

 

Been cloudy and quite cold. I done up my regular work. I did my hair. Didn’t do very much. David came for coffee this morning. Carmen and Bro calls. Carmen got the things at the store for us. Betty got my new curtains today for the kitchen. Also she got the rest of the supper, I started it. Susan and Monica over tonight to get the box Esther sent.
