The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Today I got a beautiful bouquet of mixed flowers from my grandson Zack. I love him no matter what. I hope he does what is right. Makes a big change in his life. Carmen and Betty came, they did the cleaning. It looked very nice. Betty brought up all the scrapbooks to look at. Dorothea here in the evening. Quite nice day, very cold. Brogan better. Also Carmen a dite better. Betty’s back is better. David here this morning, he is about the same. Durfee came, cut Billie’s hair.

I didn’t do anything today either. I watched soaps and looked at the scrapbooks. Betty called, also Dorothea dropped in for a little while. I wish I could talk and walk. I miss talking to Betty Smith on the phone at night.

I did a dite of wash. Betty came up, she did my ironing. I am enjoying looking at the scrapbooks. Watched TV soaps. I still can’t talk. I have an appointment for the 25th. I’m not sick, no cold either. Can’t talk. Today I got a letter from George, a Easter card from Esther and a get well card from Zack. Kind of cloudy weather and on the cool side. Carmen down and got her shot.

It was quite sunny, not too warm. I done regular work which is never much nowadays. I read all those books and late p.m. got them all done. Very very interesting. I enjoyed them. Carmen came and did vacuuming this p.m. Then came and got the supper, very good as usual. Betty dropped in a minute. Dorothea called late p.m. Brogan’s friend home from school today. She got tired playing, her cold is better but not all over it.
