The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 18 - 21, 1969

Tuesday, November 18, 1969

Some cloudy, mostly sunshine. I did regular work. Made a pie, ironed, mended and talked with Fern, Betty and Jean. Kim came up for a visit. I sent Es card and a card to Sylvia. I checked over some Christmas gift books today. My parts for my airway came today. A gift (Christmas) from Billie.

Wednesday, November 19, 1969

A cloudy dark day. I done up the house work, made bread, baked a carrot cake. Cooked a roast beef. Had Jean and Stan up for supper and evening. I called at Betty’s a little while. Minnie came over and used the phone.

Thursday, November 20, 1969 Pencils

Mild. It rained hard and wind blowed hard last night and this forenoon. I sent $13 to bank, sent insurance for Bill’s license, a phone bill. I also ordered the pencils. Fern and Lloyd called.

Friday, November 21, 1969

Pretty good day, on the cold side. Betty took Kim into the clinic for a examination. They want to see her again in six months. Her heart is enlarging some which may cause them to have to operate sooner than they had wanted to. Fern and I went. Fern went to the stamp store and I stayed at Dorothea’s with Zak while they were gone. Dorothea and I talked about Jeff. It all is such a big problem. Jeff came home about us to stay at Betty’s for the weekend.
