The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 14 - 17, 1969

Friday, November 14, 1969

A very rainy day. It rained so hard all day. Between the showers Kim came up. I done the regular work and did a lot of figuring. To town before supper.

Saturday, November 15, 1969

Well a nice day, it cleared today. It was good to see the sun. Lloyd called in the a.m. I did the work and made cupcakes. Fern down to Betty and Walt’s for supper. Bill not smoking.

Sunday, November 16, 1969 FAIR

A nice day. Didn’t get up too early. Had breakfast, did up the work. Billie went and got the ham. We wrapped it for the deep-freeze. Then he and I took the watches and a clock over to Carl Sanborn’s to have fixed. Then took a ride over through to Stoneham, Lovell and home. Fern and Lloyd here when we got here. I got supper, they stayed. Then the HORTON family called and then the THOMAS family called too. Billie gave Betty and Dorothea some ham. Bill kind of odd today because of the smoking habit he is trying to break. Aunt Ava to Betty and Walt’s for dinner.

Monday, November 17, 1969

A nice day. I washed, went down to Betty’s to stay with the kids while Betty and Walt took the car down to the garage. Then Betty and kids came up here. I finished my wash and Betty did the dishes. She got my Christmas box down from shed chamber. Then we took a walk down and picked out some Christmas trees. Came home, made a cake, got supper. Billie brought the bacon home, we wrapped it. We put it in deep-freeze. Billie gave Betty, Fern, Aunt Ava and Kennard and Lil some bacon. I called at Betty and Walt while he went up to Lil’s.
