The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 27 - 30, 1960



Sunday, November 27, 1960

A very nice warm day. We have had a very nice warm fall. Today Mama went for a ride with Bob and Blanche. I went for a ride with Fern and Lloyd down to Cumberland Center and Falmouth. Betty home after supper from Rowena’s. Bill puttered around all day with the tractor.



Monday, November 28, 1960

Rain and a freezing one. I washed a small wash. I backed cards for Mama in p.m. Betty home early from school. Linda came up with Bill. Bill and I over to Aunt Ava’s in evening. Kennie and Dot up in evening.



Tuesday, November 29, 1960

Rain again today, it is freezing again too. I made two pies, cupcakes. Dot, Lorraine and Wanda Jean came up. Lloyd called. Billie didn’t feel very good, upset stomach.

Wednesday, November 30, 1960

Cleared off. I looked at catalogs after I got the work done. I ironed also. Bessie and Rowena came up and got Betty. She stayed down there all night. Kennie and Dot called. A few snow flurries.
