The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, September 26, 1993

 

It was raining when we got up this morning. It rained hard, slow rain. David and Carmen came this morning and did their work. Betty, Carmen and kids gone to Oxford.

 

 

 

Monday, September 27, 1993

 

Well we got a rain today. I hope there will be a lot more rain. Well I didn’t do much today as usual. I got my reading caught up. Betty came, she and I went to Norway, got some shell beans, turnips and tomatoes. She came and got the supper. Walt came up. The therapist came from Billie today. He is so bad they will have a lot of work to do for him.

 

 

 

Tuesday, September 28, 1993

 

Today Billie signed for two magazines. I sent for the Bridgton history book. Also I sent Rodney Williams bill. Carmen came and did some work for us, the usual, also sent some mail. It is clear and windy today. David here this morning to do his chores.

 

 

 

Wednesday, September 29, 1993

 

A nice day. I got Esther’s letter off. Carmen came and did everything. Also David came and did the chores. Carmen went to town and done the shopping. She also had customers this morning. Also therapist came to see Billie. Dorothea took Betty to her eye doctor. Tom called a little while this p.m. Brogan here a little while and for supper. Zak came up today from Portland. It has been a few weeks since he had been up.
