The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Kind of a real nice day. David didn’t come today because the cattle had gone. Carmen came and done her chores. Cleaned the house etc. Billie’s mower came this morning. I got a paper read and watched the shows in p.m. Betty been very busy all p.m. getting ready for company coming this weekend. She went to Lewiston and got a permanent. Tonight Carmen went to the fair alone. I’ll be so glad when she gets back. The kids came up here for supper because Joan couldn’t come today to babysit so Betty and Walt had to take care of them.

Well this has been a quite miserable day. It was raining when we got up. Cloudy and dreary most all day except in late p.m. Some sun came breaking through. It was cold and got colder. Carmen, Arnold, BJ and Cameron went and bought a trailer up to Greenwood. Brought it home. Today Betty’s company came up to camp. Brogan was up there with Betty. She loves to go up there when they have company. Last night she had a good time at the show in Portland with her friend Missy Rivet. They both enjoyed it very much. Carmen is such a good mother to her. BJ is a nice-looking girl.
