The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day, very warm. David and Walt came for coffee. Dorothea called this morning on her way to work. Carmen and children called. Also Zak and Cameron with him, baby a dite fussy. Walt and two children were up early. Kids stayed down there all night. Theo Sanborn died this morning.

 

 

 

Monday, July 19, 1993

 

Another clear day, hot at times. Well Betty came and did the cleaning. She got the supper to going she and Esther. Esther up this morning and got the icebox cookies baked off, very good. David here this morning to do the chores. Tonight Walt, Cameron, Brogan here for supper. Baby is still upset, it could be the change of his milk.

 

 

 

Tuesday, July 20, 1993 TEETH PULLED

I am feeling much better. My food tastes much better. I must be gaining weight. David called this morning. Walt, kids and Betty took Walt out for a birthday supper. Carmen and Esther over to Norway or Oxford, got some vegetables. Well today we got some rain. Walt’s 65th birthday. They took him out to supper tonight, his family.

 


 




 

Wednesday, July 21, 1993 MILAN ELLIOTT SMITH 74 YEARS

 

We had a good rain last night. Also some yesterday a.m. I was on the porch today. It was a nice clear day, I dite of a thunder shower. Some rain late p.m. Carmen to town to do the shopping. Carmen got the supper, it was a very good one. Today Betty and Walt gone away to meet some friends in Ellsworth Maine. Dorothea came and called a minute.
