The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A quite nice day. Sunny but on a cold windy side. Betty and Walt went to the fair. Carmen had customers. Dorothea had to work. Carmen is so busy. She got a good supper. Cameron is the cutest little kid. He keeps us so busy. I don’t know how Carmen stands it. We love him so much. Carmen and David came and worked. I made out the bills and sent them.

Beef went today. Wade came and got them. David here and tended to the whole bit. Carmen came this morning. She will do the store shopping today. She is so busy all the time. Betty came and brought up her slip for the meat tonight. Well today I got ready, Betty came, we went downtown to see where the fire was. A complete loss. Bottle redemption center owned by Mrs. Gladys Potter. Betty H took Betty S and me on a long ride way over through Lovell, West Stoneham, North Stoneham and and East Stoneham. It was a beautiful ride, I enjoyed it all so much. I love to go over there even if it has all changed. It reminds me of the days and years past. My whole family. Dorothea, Betty H, Carmen, Brogan and me and Betty Smith. Then we came back, treated Betty S to dinner for her birthday as Shoreland then called at her home for her gifts. I had a very enjoyable dinner and I loved the ride.
