The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 30 - September 1, 1993 Bro's First Day Of School

 

Monday, August 30, 1993

 

A nice sunny day, not too hot. Esther been busy, she made cookies. Also busy all day. I helped with the dishes. Carmen and kids here. Betty brought up some more books. Betty cleaned up the house all over. Nick went to Boston today for his throat operation. I hope he will be okay. Carmen came and done her work today.

 

 

 

Tuesday, August 31, 1993

 

A fair day. I didn’t do much except I did my ironing. Esther made the sloppy joes for tomorrow. Carmen came and did her work.

 

 

 

Wednesday, September 1, 1993 BROGAN’S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

 

It was cloudy when we got up this morning. It soon cleared away, but we had a good rain before it cleared. It cleared and the Sullivans came at about 11:30. Up early this morning. Got ready and went up to see Brogan off to school on her first day. She was so cute. A very pretty dress. Carmen, Kim and I watched her to get on the bus. Then we followed her off to school. She went to Naples, we went down to see her into her new school. It was worth millions to see her. I hope I live to see her a few more and also live to see Cameron start???
