The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Well it was clear a while in the morning. Then it clouded up and had showers. Dorothea came today instead of Saturday. She cleaned the house, washed floors. Also in p.m. she and Betty washed all the windows on the outside. It looked very nice after it all was done. They did my house cleaning. I didn’t do much myself. I ironed. Carmen went to the doctor. I kept Cameron. Zak took the flagpole down. Dorothea had a good supper tonight.

It was a very windy day. Also some rain showers. Well they had a yard sale at Betty Smith’s. They all did well, sold a lot of things. David came for coffee. Susan called in p.m. a minute. Also Dorothea and Carmen came. Dorothea got the supper. I didn’t do much today as usual.

Awful windy, on the coolish side. I done up the work. Walt up for coffee. I done regular work. Zac up early or middle of forenoon. Betty at the camp all day, has company. I got a lot of reading done. Carmen came in p.m., made Billie’s needles. Brought up some cookies. Dorothea had company this weekend. David sister and husband. Billie mowed lawns. Zac had to get his machine going. I wrote to Esther. Zac came tonight, we saw the videos of Carmen, of the kids etc. Very good. Brogan had a good time at camp. Got awful tired. She had kids to play with.

Well it came in clear, but is soon clouded up and was a miserable cloudy and cool or cold day. I done regular work. Washed. Carmen came and made beds. Betty came in p.m., cleaned up the house. Got the supper. Zac was here with her, but Walt got his own down-home, didn’t come up.
