The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A quite nice day. Carmen came, made the beds etc. this morning. I got papers read this morning. In p.m. we watched the soaps. Dorothea came early because she was going down to a play in Gorham with Joy. Cindy is in the play. Betty called. Brogan came up, she brought her school report card. Very very good. We didn’t see anything on TV tonight. Nothing at all. Mild most of the day.

A very hot hot day. Dorothea came and worked all day. David came for coffee. I didn’t do much. Carmen and Kim had their annual Kentucky Derby dinner at their home for friends. It was a good feed and Carmen won the bet on the race. Brogan and Cameron stayed at Joans. The supper they served was way beyond me. Susan here in evening. She brought the rake back.

Well, I got the breakfast and done up the work. Walt here for coffee this morning. I got my letter started. Betty came before I got them written to go to camp. First time up there this year. They cleaned up the lot. Had hotdogs and hamburgers, cookies and chips. It was sunny, but windy. Not so warm as yesterday. This was Cameron’s first day at camp. He liked that. Got home about 3 PM.
