The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Well David came to help feed the cattle. They are doing very well. A quite nice day. Mild and sunny. I done reading. The Horton kids took their father Walt out for dinner, all bought him a nice sign for his office. He was pleased. This is been a long day but Carmen and kids called also Susan and Dorothea dropped in.

 

 

 

Monday, June 21, 1993

 

Well it has been rainy and cloudy all day. I got my work done up and got the washing to going. Carmen came, made the beds. Took care of the clothes. Also Mr. Dan Knox called again today. I am going to get the aid for housework.

 

 

 

Tuesday, June 22, 1993 TOM AND KIM 2 year anniversary

 

A quite nice day. I done up my work. Carmen, Betty and I went down to school and got Brogan then we went to Ames to do Cameron’s birthday shopping. All kinds of weather all around today. Kim and Tom up to camp for the day.

 

 

 

Wednesday, June 23, 1993

 

It has been a sunny day, but awful awful windy. It has been on the cold side. Mowed Walt’s hay today. John Saliba. Carmen came this morning, done some jobs then she went to town and done the grocery shopping. Cameron has two new teeth. He was very good all morning. Betty dropped in this forenoon. Carmen had an appointment at the doctor’s this p.m. Cameron Alexander Crook Horton one YEAR old.
