The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Cloudy and foggy when we got up but it cleared off and the sun came out and it was a beautiful clear sunny day. Dorothea and Betty came and cleaned the kitchen. It was a days job. Betty got upset again. I’m sorry it is terrible. I don’t like it. They did such a good job. It looks very good. Carmen went to the doctor. She isn’t very good. Cameron was very cute all the time he was here. Rosalie brought some food from Billie moved today.

It cleared away and was a nice sunny day. The fog cleared up. I didn’t do much today as usual. David didn’t come for coffee. He and Dorothea went Cumberland to a meeting of sheep and talks of caring of them etc. They liked it. Dorothea came in p.m., got the supper. Susan also called. Dorothea and I called at Betty Smith’s after supper. Monica called Esther tonight. I was glad to talk to her.

A most beautiful day. Sun shining all day. A good westerly wind blowed all day. I got up early. Got the morning work done. Then I wrote my letter to Esther. Dorothea came. Then Betty came, we all went to the cemeteries with plants. Betty Smith, Dorothea, Carmen, BJ, Brogan, Cameron and me. It being such a nice day it was a very nice enjoyable ride. I came home, sat on back porch. Done some reading. I got the supper tonight. Walt up for coffee.
