The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, June 8, 1993

 

A very nice sunny day, the wind blowed some more. I did my regular work. Carmen and Cameron came for a little while. She made a rhubarb pie. I set out on porch all a.m. I read the papers etc. They worked over to the lot today. Betty got the supper. It was good. Pie was very good. Betty cleaned up the house, it looked very nice.

 

 

 

Wednesday, June 9, 1993

 

Another one of those miserable cloudy all day. I didn’t do much. Carmen came, went to and done the shopping. Cameron was here a little while. I washed my hair today. I will get it done tomorrow. Watched the soaps today. David down for coffee. Carmen came and got the supper. Bro and Cameron was here too. Jason came and worked.

 

 

 

Thursday, June 10, 1993

 

Well occasional break in the clouds. Carmen called after she had taken bro to school. She was so tired. She had been awake more or less during the night. She got the supper tonight. Betty and Zak cleaned her barn today. Anna Hewson died late today, it came over the scanner. We was quite a shock. It was about suppertime.

 

 

 

Friday, June 11, 1993

 

A quite nice day, some cloud and a lot of sun. I got my work done then I did a washing. Dorothea came and worked all day cleaning etc. It looks very nice. Carmen went to the school entertainment at Brogan’s school. It was very nice she said. Cameron was here. Zak up this morning to have some coffee.
