The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Friday, May 14, 1993 ZAK CAME HOME

 

Zak came home today or tonight. He arrived at (blank) on Kim’s time. We all were so pleased to see him. He looked so good. He had a good trip, one flat tire and a wheel joint problem. He drove right through from Vince’s at Barberton Ohio to Bridgton Maine. Today the family members were here, Betty, Walt, Dorothea, Joy, Betty S, Tom, Kim, Carmen, Brogan and Cameron. Carmen cleaned the living room closets. Dorothea, Charlene and Betty called today.

 

 

 

Saturday, May 15, 1993

 

Well this has been a busy and exciting day. David came for coffee. Dorothea and Susan came. Dorothea done the housework. Susan came and cut Billie’s hair. About 10 AM on the scanner came a report of a woods fire on the Middle Ridge Road. In the woods in back of the Harriman and Horton house, also the Suzi Ingraham house. We was shook up about it. Betty, Walt, Zac and Brogan went after plants for the cemetery. Glad Zac’s home. Kim, Susan and Betty called. Tom been fishing up to Rangeley today. The Horton family are having supper together tonight.

A mostly cloudy morning. In p.m. it cleared off nice and sunny. Walt up for coffee. Also Zac came up for coffee later. It is good to have him to drop in again. I wrote my letter today to Esther. I read some papers. Betty has company.
