The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Not a very good day. Cloudy showers. Carmen and Cameron came, we cleaned the draws, closet etc. in Billie’s room. She and Arnold worked on some fence this p.m. Betty got the supper tonight, a good one. Zak is in Indiana tonight. Dorothea got a pig today, going to try it out.

 

 

 

Wednesday, May 12, 1993 BROGAN HAIRCUT

 

It was quite nice and sunny until late PM. Then it began to get cloudy. Also it got cold. Well I cleaned some of the draws in the kitchen. Carmen and cam came early. Carmen done the cupboards in the bathroom. Kim did all the radiators and started the cupboards. Carmen had appointment at the doctor. Also she done the shopping. Then she came back, got the supper, made molasses cookies. Cooked a very good supper. Took Brogan to get her hair cut.

A cloudy day at times then a lot of sun. On the coolish side. Carmen and Cam came, Kim finished the cupboards. Carmen cleaned some closets in the living room. The girls did a very good job. Carmen went home and came back, got the supper. It is near time for Zak to arrive home.
