The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Not so hot today. I cleaned some of the pollen dust off the porch. Jason came this morning. Carmen called this morning. She had to work at the hospital last night. Brogan called today on her way down to see her grandma. A man coming to see me tomorrow about someone coming to help out here.

Mostly clear, some haze. A quite nice day. Carmen called for a little while. Rodney Williams came and fixed the pump today. Kim came and got the supper. Tom came too for supper. Zak and Kim came up. Kim rode home with Tom on the motorcycle. Betty came up for a little while.

A very hot day, it was sunny and humid. Dorothea came and did the cleaning. Also a man called Dan Knox from Southern Maine Agency on Aging. We or I’m eligible for care. Not much money in that. I don’t know who I will get to work. Maybe the agency will have to send someone. Dorothea cleaned up good yesterday, it was a mess from the pollen. Arnold’s sister lost two horses in the bad shower this past week.

Saturday, June 19, 1993 beef heifers came today from Wade Kimball. Two nice Herefords

David came for coffee. Carmen came early. She did a few chores for me this morning. I made cocoa. Carmen worked last night. Dorothea came, got the supper. A very good roast pork supper. Also David came which is quite unusual. David was here when heifers came. He helped to get the things done. This has been a cloudy rainy and sunny day. It cooled off some today.
