The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 5 - 8, 1961 Mama's Teeth Arrive!



Sunday, March 5, 1961

A dreary day. Didn’t do much except regular work. Blanche, Linda and Dave here. Kennie, Dot and Fern and Lloyd. Betty, Linda and David got supper.



Monday, March 6, 1961

Raymond been gone one month tonight. This has been a very nasty day, snow and sleet. I washed. Billie and Art home at noon, didn’t have to go back because it was town meeting day. Gordon called in evening. Betty home all evening and alone.



Tuesday, March 7, 1961

Cleared off today. I finished Dorothea’s letter, also wrote to Susan, Norma and Billie. Dr. Taylor brought Mama’s teeth today. Lloyd called in a.m.


Wednesday, March 8, 1961

I got the ironing done, also I churned. A very nice day with cloudiness in late p.m. A storm predicted for tomorrow. Lloyd came up, brought up a very large egg to show us. Kay and Jerry brought Betty home from school. Betty babysitting for Irene tonight. Linda up here with her and stayed all night.
