The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Up early this morning, getting ready to go up to camp for the day and night. She made 2 apple pies and a batch of cookies. Carmen worked all night. Brogan down to her grandmother and grandpas. When Betty and I went down and got Betty S we stopped in to see Kim and Tom’s place. It looks so very nice all cleaned and in order. I hope we all get a chance to see it all someday soon. Had a nice meal of Italian sandwiches up to camp. Brownies, cookies two apple pies etc. are all very good and nice.

Friday, June 28, 1991 HOT HOT HOT HOT

97°. It was such a very hot day we had fans on all day and night. We had to come inside from the porch. I read papers, regular work. Esther over to Susan and Monica’s for supper. Carmen and Bro called. I expect Tom and Kim are on their way to Boston now. They have been to Twin Oaks all day and into the evening.

Well at last it has got cooled off, real cold today. Quite breezy. What a big change. 98° yesterday. It cooled off during the night and some rain. Done up the work. I read out on the porch with all the windows all closed. MR. AND MRS. THOMAS HARRIMAN returned home today from the wedding trip today at St. Lucia island in the West Indies. They have a variety of experiences. A good time and they are very happy. I hope they will always be together in their lives. The best of them.
