The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, June 16, 1991 Father’s Day

 

RAIN RAIN all day. Esther made three batches of cookies. Wrote cards and got the lunch. Walt up for coffee. I did a washing. Carmen and Bro called a minute. Brought Billie a card from Bro and a box of candy.

 


 

 

Monday, June 17, 1991

 

Well cloudy and raining this morning. It cleared later. Done up regular work. Esther washed kitchen floor. I washed my hair. Well this morning started a big watchful weather for the weekend and all final preparations for the upcoming wedding for Saturday. I hope and pray it will be very nice weather all through it all. Last night Carmen, Kam, Brogan and Zac took Walt out for a Father’s Day supper.

 

 

 

Tuesday, June 18, 1991

 

Well we got up to see fog and clouds, at least no rain. Esther got vegetables ready for supper and made the pumpkin hi. I done up the dishes, made the beds. Esther swept. Well at last a nice sunny day after the fog burned off. Esther out looking for and got three 4 leaf clovers. One 5 leaf. I didn’t do much today. Carmen called. Esther to town with Susan. Betty called in eve. Monica called in PM when she came to get Esther. Tom and Kim down to see Betty’s painting etc. Betty got her upstairs all cleaned.
