The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It was raining. When we got up, it had been raining but it stopped and out came the sun. It’s became very hot again. David came for coffee. Jason came and did work. I went to South Paris with Betty, Carmen and Brogan. We went to see Zac but missed out. I’m sorry about that. Then Betty and Carmen went to the store. We had ice cream then came home.

Another very nice day. It was very hot during the day, not quite as bad as last week. In evening it had cooled off. Carmen working from 3 to 11. She is about bushed. Jason here today, took the lawnmower over to be fixed. He and Billie. The exhaust went on his truck. Betty, Carmen and Bro here today. In evening Dorothea came and she had Betty come up. Fern has us all kind of shook up about her will, she is changing it. Brogan sick with being on the tired side. Walt up, he got a call from Zac, he is coming home tomorrow at 5 PM.

Kind of a cloudy day, in late p.m. it rained. I done washing. Carmen came, changed the bed, swept, dusted. She had to go to work at 3 to 7. Betty and Bro up. Zack out for morning coffee. I was glad to have them. Carmen washed the floors too. Billie gave Arnold tools for helping him clean the well out.
