The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 13 - 15, 1991 Monica's Graduation

Thursday, June 13, 1991 WIND WIND WIND

A very heavy wind all day, not too cold. Yet it began to get cold later in the day. We done up the work. I did the washing. Carmen came and did the vacuuming and made up the beds clean. She and the Brogan went to Lewiston and got their hair done. Betty called in PM. Fixed a frame for Billie to use for garage. Billie Joe came and brought some flowers. I feel so sorry for her and her brother Nick. Jason came and scraped rest of the garage. Esther up to see Fern for a little while. Billie D took her, she came back, got supper and then she and Dorothea went to Monica’s baccalaureate at school.

Still quite windy. Sunny all day. Not quite as cold. Esther made the sloppy Joe’s for the party of Monica’s. Brogan here most of the day. Carmen, Dorothea, Betty S and Betty H all down to Tom’s mother’s for a party for Kim. It was nice, they enjoyed it and had a good time. In p.m. Billie D came over in his uniform and took pictures of him and also of he and Esther. We all drove down to the cemetery where they put out a plaque for George Crook. Very nice and looks good.

Saturday, June 15, 1991 Monica graduates

Showery and cloudy and some good weather. David down this morning for coffee. Didn’t do much today. Well Monica Louise Rager graduated from Lake Regional High School. It is very nice that she did that. Everyone was so pleased she made that after being out one year. She is smart and will do very well in life. She had a nice lot of money and nice gifts. Susan gave her a very nice party at their house with friends and relatives. It was very nice, the weather was quite good all day.
