The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 8 - 11, 1991

Monday, July 8, 1991 RAIN

I did my washing. Carmen came, we got a roast beef ready for supper. It was very good. She had to go to work at 11 PM tonight. I didn’t do much, we got some much-needed rain today, showers. Betty called, also Dorothea here to do a paper for Billie. Kim got called on last night by a skunk. A narrow escape for her, nothing happened. I’m so glad it didn’t.

Tuesday, July 9, 1991 Billie mowed his pastures

Well when we got up this morning it was very good to see the sun. It was very windy all day. Carmen came and she helped Billie to get on and off the tractor. And got the mower hooked up. Angel got out of the pasture today and took a run around the neighborhood. I did an ironing today.

We took Kassie for her annual checkup and to be groomed. Carmen took her over. Betty and I over to Norway. Betty did some shopping for her reunion up to camp this weekend.  Carmen and Brogan over to the carnival tonight. Dorothea called in the eve. I washed Kassie’s bedding all today.
