The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice day, not quite as hot as the past week, yet still quite hot. I did a wash, dusted, cleaned up the whole house, dusted, did the ironing. Got my hair done and went down to get my hair set. Zak is sick, has bad stomach pains. Betty been up to the shelter all or most of the day.

Tuesday, July 11, 1978 Roundtree’s came

Another beautiful day but cold and windy. Billie home today, we done a few odds and end jobs, went to town. About 5 PM they (Roundtrees) called, said they would come up in about an hour and a half. Well I rushed around, got our supper, got cleaned up and about 7 they came. He and Billie was so pleased to see each other. They hadn’t seen each other since they were in the service about 25 years ago. They are very nice people and I liked them very much. They had one son with them.

We are having nice sunny dry weather. We need rain for the gardens. This has been a beautiful day but it was quite windy which made it kind of on the cool side. Joy called this morning, also Betty the Avon lady called. Then I had Bill go down and get Fern, she stayed all PM and for supper. Betty and Kim up to the shelter and Dawn’s today. Bill didn’t do anything today.
