The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 21 - 24, 1957



Thursday, November 21, 1957

A nice day but colder. I done up the housework and cooked some. In p.m. Dolores called. In evening Billie, Betty and I went down to Ferns and Lloyds. Oswald went to the Grange. Raymond Allen called here in the evening.



Friday, November 22, 1957

Clear with some scattered clouds. Cold. I churned, done up the work. In evening Betty went up to Dawn’s late, she came home with Steve and David. They watched the horror show on TV. I went to town in late p.m. Dennis called and paid for separator. Steve here all night.



Saturday, November 23, 1957

A good day. I cooked, did up the housework. Betty cleaned out birds. Steve here all day. In p.m., got ready to go to Nancy and George’s wedding. We went to Otisfield in evening, the wedding very pretty and at the reception it was very nice. Blanche, Dolores, Betty and I went, Kennard took us over.



Sunday, November 24, 1957

Rayburn, Joan, and Karen here for dinner. Enjoyed them very much, spent the afternoon. Bill and Billie worked in the woods piling up the wood.
