The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Bill worked at Betty’s on the room. I done my regular work and went down to Betty’s. She took Zak to school and Fern shopping. Bill took me to the store in p.m. Betty and Walt took Zak to Lewiston to see Dr. Shields. He wants to see Zak every three months.

Friday, January 25, 1974 Carmen and Zak to doctors, mild.

I done my work. I went down to Betty’s. She took Zak and Carmen to the doctor. Zak for checkup, Carmen to see what makes her have blackouts. She is very healthy physically. I was down to Betty’s and cleaned up her rooms after Bill finished doing the room. Also for supper. Betty, Walt, Carmen and Kim out for supper. Billie was invited by them and went.

Saturday, January 26, 1974

A real March like day. I done regular work. Made molasses cookies, a chocolate cake. Bread and baked beans. Carmen and Amy called also Kim and Betty. I washed and ironed.

Sunday, January 27, 1974 hair rinse

Cloudy when we got up, but it is cleared and another one of those March like days. The snow melting and the water running. I done up regular work and then I shampooed my hair and put a rinse on. Took a bath and after it cleared, I washed. Billie went with Lawrence.
