The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 28 - March 2, 1974

Thursday, February 28, 1974

This is been a partly cloudy day. On the mild side. Betty up here and worked on the snapshots. Zak to Humpty Dumpty school then he was here in p.m.

A very unusual month of February this 1974. Not much snow, very mild. We went to Carmen’s birthday party on the fifth. On the 17th the Horton family up here for Betty’s birthday. The will of Jean’s finally came out in the paper on the 26. I sure hope they get that settled soon. Esther and Cliff bought a brand-new car this past month.

A real March day. Sunny and mild. Betty, Zak and I went to Portland to grocery shop. Dorothea went with us. The snow is all gone down by Windham and down. We don’t have too much here at home. Esther and Cliff came over tonight.

Partly cloudy and partly sunshine, is shown enough so I got my clothes dried and in. I washed windows on the outside. I washed kitchen floor, done a dite of cooking, bread, rolls and a chocolate cake. Carmen stayed down to Maureen’s last night, came home this p.m. Bill and I to town in p.m.
