The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 2 - 5, 1958 Trip to CT

Monday, June 2, 1958

Rain again, cleared in p.m. but cold and cloudy. I washed. Dawn called. Betty late in getting home from school. Over to Aunt Linnie’s in eve.

Tuesday, June 3, 1958 PERMANENT

A very beautiful morning, nice all day except cold (?) cappered right around all forenoon. Cleaned house. Churned, took bath, shampooed hair. To June’s in p.m., got ready after supper, went to shower. LETTER from Adair’s.

Wednesday, June 4, 1958

We left home at 8 AM, a very beautiful morning. We had dinner in Lynn, Massachusetts at the Agawam Diner. Got to Connecticut about 2:30. In evening we went out to Thena’s friends for supper.

Thursday, June 5, 1958

A very nice day, got up about 9 AM. Sat around and talk till 10:30. Went down to the town (Hartford) by bus, shopping, had lunch. Got home about three. Got ready and Milan came and took me out to their home. Very pretty. They took me out for dinner in a real swanky place. Then went riding and back to Thena’s at 10:30. Thunder shower.
