The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 7- 13, 1945 New Os Luck Farm owners



Saturday, July 7, 1945

Bill and Ilan got through in the woods. Bill, kids and I went to town. Billie and Val went to movies.



Sunday, July 8, 1945

Bill, kids and I went over to Ivory Purinton’s in p.m. to see about lumber. Moved big chicks up stairs. Aunt Ava, Uncle Lewis and friend called.



Monday, July 9, 1945

I washed. Bill and Ilan began on new barn. I cleaned up the car. Ronald called a few minutes.



Tuesday, July 10, 1945

Showers. Today wrote letters to Brud, Carkie, Es and Jack. Sent for separator parts. We went down to see Goden in eve. Auntie back home.



Wednesday, July 11, 1945

Billie and Goden began to haul pulp. We went down to Jeans in eve. Fern and Lloyd became owners of Os Luck’s farm. Mr. Murray called $30.



Thursday, July 12, 1945

Billie and Goden hauled pulpwood. I washed. Sally and Goden here for supper. Mama called in eve.



Friday, July 13, 1945
They began to get ready to haul timber out today. Nice day. Billie and Goden hauled pulpwood. Got a letter from George C. (Crook)
