The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, February 22, 1947

Shoveled snow. Got about 1 foot. Hayd came after the pig he bought off Bob. Bill worked up in the woods.



Sunday, February 23, 1947

Fair. Bill worked at Lloyd’s. Billie hauled slabs for Ilan and ourselves. Val helped. Bob called.



Monday, February 24, 1947

We washed. Joy up here today. Goden and Sally called.



Tuesday, February 25, 1947

Nice day. I ironed. Herbert called and hired Bill to help him for two days this week. He worked at Ferns today. Billie up to Chet’s.



Wednesday, February 26, 1947

Very nice day. Bill took Dorothea down to Brownies. Raymond got his pig today. Billie walked to town. Bill worked at Ferns this a.m.



Thursday, February 27, 1947

Bill worked up to Herbert’s today. Raymond got his pig today. Ken and Delores called in eve. Bob in a.m. Billie helped Bob to haul sand.



Friday, February 28, 1947

Bill worked up to Herbert’s. Nice day. I ironed. Mama made Betty a new dress. Been sewing a lot for her. Billie helped Bob.
