The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 15 - 21, 1947 Betty's Birthday



Saturday, February 15, 1947

Bill, Bob, Billie, and Ronald hauled logs all day. Bob and family here for dinner.



Sunday, February 16, 1947

Hauled rest of logs. Bill worked down to Lloyd’s in p.m. Bob and Joy here for dinner.



Monday, February 17, 1947

Nice day. We washed. Bill took our new dog down to Jean’s. Betty had a nice birthday cake, cards and her father and Billie gave her (?). Billie took out $2500 life insurance.



Tuesday, February 18, 1947

I ironed. Called on Minnie. Bill and I called at Hayd’s in eve. Very nice warm spring day. Water running in roads.



Wednesday, February 19, 1947

Clear and cold, did regular work. Goden called. Ilan called in eve. Fern and Lloyd went to Portland.



Thursday, February 20, 1947

Cold, clear. We washed. Bill went up to Ilan’s in eve. Bob called in a.m. Kennard up in eve.



Friday, February 21, 1947

Very bad blizzard and cold. Ironed. Dorothea home at noon. Raymond called in p.m. School closed for one week vacation.
