The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Mintee Green?

Nice day. Worked, went to town, over to (?)Mintee Greens over to Harrison. Called at (?) Ermaro Wheelers, got bulbs. Bud Lowell here in p.m. to see about a blower for furnace. Lowell twins here to ride, also Rodney Durfee.



Sunday, October 23, 1955

Nice day. Cooked, did up the housework. Kennard, Raymond and Bob called. We called Cliff today. Es getting better. Billie worked in the tie up. Bill cleaned out the well. Lloyd called. Betty to S. S. Kids here again in p.m.



Monday, October 24, 1955

Quite windy, mild. I did a big wash. Mama over to Norway with Aunt Ava and Uncle Lewis, called at Ina’s. Billie home in late p.m. and took the Jersey over to Raymond’s. Bill ate dinner here this noon. Snow flurries.



Tuesday, October 25, 1955

Not sure what the red circle and line were for

Very good day. I ironed in the afternoon. In the morning Bill, Mama and I went to Auburn looking for stoves, bathroom fixtures etc. Bought drinking (cows) fountain for barn today.



Wednesday, October 26, 1955

Snowed an inch or two today. I churned and cooked. Billie got my pullets home tonight. Bill and Betty and I got a place for the old hens. Billie and I got the old hen house cleaned out and the Rhode Island ed pullets in. Bought them off Raymond Gammon.
