The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 29 - December 2, 1955



Tuesday, November 29, 1955

A very good day but got awful cold in p.m. Windy. I got the clothes in and ironed. Billie home all day. Donnie better. Betty and bunch of kids gone skating.



Wednesday, November 30, 1955

A cold windy day. I cleaned up the house. Cooked. They came after the TV today for repair. Terrie Moffitt and Sue Ann Blanchard came up here tonight after school. Arthur Andrews got his house moved to the top of Chadbourne hill. Bill took us up to see it. Dorothea called tonight on phone, she was quite upset. She will be home in two weeks for good.



Thursday, December 1, 1955

Very nice day. I worked on Christmas orders. Brought back the TV today.



Friday, December 2, 1955

Cloudy cold, light snow in p.m. I worked on Christmas order all day. The heifer went today to be butchered. Billie helped Raymond haul wood. They moved Arthur Andrews house up to his place today. Uncle Os called in p.m. Terrie Moffitt here tonight all night. I went over to Dr. Ruby with Donnie and to Sylvia Weymouth’s  baby shower at Sally’s.
