Thursday, May 28, 1964

It was so cold all day and windy. I cleaned up the whole house. I churned today. Billie and Betty mowed lawns. Billie cleaned out some raspberries.

Friday, May 29, 1964 got strawberry plants

A nice day, on the cool cool cool side. Blanche, Carmen and I went to Gorham and got our strawberry plants. Betty and Billie here alone all day. Billie didn’t have to work. He fixed his fence and finished the raspberries. I got my plants for Cemetery. I got plants for my flower boxes. Betty gone to all night drive in. Ashley Dyer called to see Bill.

Saturday, May 30, 1964 DOROTHEA CALLED

A nice clear day, on the cool side. It was just fine talking to Dorothea, Dennis and Jeffie. I wish she was here. She is a good girl. I done up the work. Bill set out STRAWBERRY plants. Billie cleaned his car in p.m. Phil Hunt’s family called in p.m. We had supper at Fern and Lloyd’s.

Sunday, May 31, 1964

Cool. A partly cloudy day, not much doing. I set out rest of my dahlias. Betty and I to town. I wrote to Esther. Billie downtown. Betty reading. Carmen playing. Billie, Betty, Carmen and I all went over to Brownfield to see a Guernsey cow. Took a ride over through Fryeburg and Lovell to Sweden and home. Came home, had supper. Joe Hatch went up to the HOUSE. Betty and I up to see Mr. Vose. Fern, Lloyd, Kennie and Dot called.

May 24 - 27, 1964

Sunday, May 24, 1964 HOT

Still very hot yet a little more of a breeze. I got up about 8 AM. Carmen fussying. Got breakfast, done up the work. Betty took Doreen and Dick to church (Catholic), when she came home, made sandwiches and then took them home. Bob, Kennie and Dot called. Billie gone most all day.

Monday, May 25, 1964

A very windy day, it cooled off very fast. Real cold wind in late p.m. and evening. I did a tremendous big wash. I sat out some more of the dahlias. I got all the clothes in and ironed after supper. Betty had Louise, Roland and Bonnie up. Dot and Kennie up. Bob and Blanche. Cut Carmen’s bangs.

Tuesday, May 26, 1964

Still cold and windy. I got my housework done up and got ready. Blanche and I up to East Stoneham to the Cemetery, two grandmothers, one grandfather, two uncles and one aunt. Came home, cleaned kitchen stove and playpen. Louise up here. Betty down to Louise’s in p.m. and evening. Set rhubarb out.

Wednesday, May 27, 1964

Finished the timber and pulpwood. Hauled tractor home. I cleaned the old tie up, washed barn windows, did shed chamber floor. Betty mowed lawns in PM. Billie mowed after supper. Rosalie and Randy called. Wind blowed hard all day. Got cold after supper.

May 20- 23, 1964

Wednesday, May 20, 1964

A nice day after the clouds got cleared away about 10 AM. On the cold windy side. Betty is so much more happier than she has been for three years. A nice letter from Mike saying his time is getting shorter in Korea. I cleaned up the downstairs. Carmen and I picked and froze greens. Fern, Lloyd called. Betty home tonight.

Thursday, May 21, 1964

Cloudy and cool. Bill to work early to clean up streets. I cleaned up my downstairs. Mailed letters to Dorothea and Mike. Picked greens and froze them.

Friday, May 22, 1964

Bill had to go to work again early this morning, got home at 2:30. Betty and I to town in p.m. I cleaned up the house, getting ready for Doreen and boyfriend. Ashley Dyer came up from woods to see Bill. They are most all done cutting timber. It got quite warm in p.m.

Saturday, May 23, 1964 Hot Hot

Came off very hot today. Bill to work early this morning, came home at 8:30. Billie, Carmen and I went over to Norway to Phil Hunt’s and took his meat grinder home. I was very hot. Carmen got tired and fussy. Billie stopped and got ice cream. Betty, Doreen and Dick went swimming. To movies in evening. Betty off again. Fern up for supper and evening. They only worked a half day in the woods, too hot. Cleaned off front porch. Put Carmen in pool for first time.

May 16 - 19, 1964

Saturday, May 16, 1964

A very nice beautiful day. On the very warm side. Billie up early and got his chores done and left at 5 AM to go to Vermont with Dave Thomas. Betty and I up early and went to Portland to get Blanche. Carmen went too. Came home, done up all the work. Fern, Lloyd called. Worked in the woods today. Mr. Vose called saying they was going to appraise the house.

Sunday, May 17, 1964 Planted

A beautiful day. Bill planted garden. Billie got home about 5 AM, they rode all night. Lloyd and Billie cut up the other quarter of beef. I wrapped it. Billie hurt his finger real bad. Betty up and to town to get paper. The house was appraised today $1500. Bill called at Vose. Alice and family called.

Monday, May 18, 1964

Another beautiful day. I did another one of those tremendous big wash’s today. I did my ironing and 1000 other things after supper. Betty off again (?) Still cutting timber. I went to town in a.m. with Fern and Lloyd and cleaned my blankets. Today I hung clothes out back for first time this year. Betty got a very nice letter from Mike. Only 33 days left in Old Korea. I got a gift from Dorothea.

Tuesday, May 19, 1964

A cloudy forenoon and rain in PM. They worked in the woods in forenoon. Betty worked today ironing. I didn’t do much of anything all day. Cleared off about suppertime. Bonnie came up. We had thundershowers in p.m. and during the night.

May 12 - 15, 1964

Tuesday, May 12, 1964

Much warmer today. Went to Portland early this morning, got home about 11:30 AM. I churned. Billie mowed lawns for the first time tonight. Kennie and Dot called, Blanche and I was down to the Cemetery after supper.

Wednesday, May 13, 1964

Cool and quite windy. Blanche came over, we picked greens for the deep-freeze. Betty mowed her lot all over today, got about all tuckered out. They sawed and hauled logs. Fern and Lloyd called. I called at Aunt Ava’s. Fern’s all done cleaning. Billie got two pigs, red and white pigs.

Thursday, May 14, 1964

Rained all day. They hauled out a large load of logs this morning. I cleaned the shower and finished up the bathroom and Carmen’s room. Betty all lamed up today. Fern got her permanent.

Friday, May 15, 1964

A beautiful day. I got the work all done and had time off. Betty done her hair. On the cool side. Betty, Carmen, Christie and I all walked up to Betty’s lot. They worked in the woods again today. Betty to town again tonight.
