September 30 - October 3, 1978 Milan and Betty arrive

 

Saturday, September 30, 1978

 

Quite a nice day, it got a little hazy in PM. I done all my work, did a ironing etc. Bill and Billie helped Walt saw the wood. Billie done most of it. Betty up to Joy’s and all around.

 

 

 

Sunday, October 1, 1978

 

Well we got a few late showers today but not enough to do any good. It has been cloudy all day. Bill, Billie, Betty and Walt sawed rest of Walt’s wood also Betty and Walt sawed some up to the shelter. Carmen called. Kimmy, Zak, Betty and Walt all called. Esther over to Phyllis’s camp with her and Brud, Verna and Cathy. All had a nice time and good dinner. Lloyd not very good today. I worked on the bills etc. today.

 

 

 

Monday, October 2, 1978 Milan and Betty came

 

It was foggy when we got up but it cleared and it was such a nice day. We had a quite good rain last night. And also yesterday some rain showers. I did my washing. Was going to help Betty, but Milan and Betty came so I didn’t. Phyllis called, we all went over to her cottage. I cooked a roast pork supper. Kimmy came up in evening.

 

 

 

Tuesday, October 3, 1978 $242.30 Bill $106.30 Althea

 

A beautiful day. Betty C Horton took Milan and Betty and me all for a ride, we went in Milan’s car all around. Up to Stearns Pond etc. In PM we went over to Denmark. Bill getting ready to go to the hospital.

 

September 26 -29, 1978

 

Tuesday, September 26, 1978 460 pounds

 

Another nice day. No rain. Well, I was down to Betty’s and helped her do washing, washed her kitchen floor, swept the dining room, came home, made 2 pies, did a huge ironing, mine and Betty’s. Bill down and helped Walt this PM. Betty went out to a luncheon meeting. Took Kim to the doctors etc. The heifer dressed out at 460 pounds.

 

 

 

Wednesday, September 27, 1978

 

A beautiful day. I done up my regular work. Went down to Betty’s. Esther was there, we did her applesauce. Betty went away to North Windham. Had to return a drill. In PM Fern came up when Betty got back. Betty brought some Italian sandwiches, we ate those. Betty packaged her applesauce. Fern and Es made up some hamburger patties. I did the wash.

 

 

 

Thursday, September 28, 1978

 

A nice day, I done my stove. To town, defrosted refrigerator and done a lot of other jobs. Washed the windows after I got back. Bill worked in Walt’s cellar cutting out a stove from the wall.

 

 

 

Friday, September 29, 1978

 

A nice sunny day. We done a lot of work. I done a lot of extra jobs, washed, washed windows, cleaned all around. Cleaned the downstairs bedroom getting ready for Milan and Betty. Betty up to Joy’s in PM. Kids home from school at noon. They went out to supper at the Dairy Queen then to the movies.

September 23 -25, 1978 Fern and Lloyd's 50th Wedding Anniversary

A very nice day. I have been busy all day, washed and ironed. Carmen called. Billie and Bill got some hay. Billie went with Lawrence in PM. Billie done a few odds and end jobs.

 

Sunday, September 24, 1978 Fern and Lloyd’s 50^th anniversary, the black heifer went tonight

 

It has been a beautiful day. I done up my regular work, got ready, went to South Paris to the Andrews Nursing Home to celebrate Fern and Lloyd’s 50^th wedding anniversary. Dorothea made a beautiful cake. Dorothea, Dot, Esther and Cliff, Betty, Joy and girls and me. Lloyd seemed to know what is, was all about and was pleased. Fern was real pleased. They got money. Afterwards Dorothea and all called at Fern’s, also Muriel and Vinny. They called at the nursing home also. Dorothea came up here for a little while. Walt and Betty sawed some of Walt’s wood.

 

 

 

 

 

Monday, September 25, 1978

 

Billie back to work. It is just the same to him down there. I did my washing down to Betty’s. Then we went to town on some errands. They got all their pork today. It was over $200 worth. Also some chickens. She and Bill got the cabinet in and in its place. The heifer killed today.

 

 

September 19 - 22, 1978

Tuesday, September 19, 1978 Zak’s school papers

 

A very nice pretty day. I done my regular work down to Betty’s for a little while. I cleaned up Bill’s car. I got my green tomato mincemeat canned up. I went up to the orchard at Waterford flat with Billie, we got apples and cider. Billie harrowed Walt’s garden again. Bill down to help Betty a while. Betty took Kim to hospital for relief in her lungs. I ironed after supper. Joy called tonight. Kim went in a.m. and PM to have her lungs pumped out. Zak brought up some more 100 A+ papers. Also Carmen got the highest rank in her class for biology.

 

 

 

Wednesday, September 20, 1978 A NICE LONG RIDE

 

A beautiful day. It was clear, sunny and warm. I done up my regular work. Ground rest of tomatoes and apples for the mincemeat. Then I got ready and we, Billie and I, took Fern and Esther for a very nice long ride up into New Hampshire. It was beautiful, the mountain vews. We had dinner at a very nice restaurant in Tamworth. We went over 150 miles. Kimmy down twice today for checkup etc. at the hospital.

 

 

 

Thursday, September 21, 1978 HOT

 

It has been a very hot and humid day. Went to town in a.m. Susan, Esther, Delores and I. I came home, done some washing. Called at Fern’s. Frances and Thena were there. Bill and Betty worked on the camp. Billie down to Lawrence, over to Joy’s and helped. He and Bill fixed her tractor.

 

 

 

Friday, September 22, 1978

 

Well it is been cloudy today but no rain, just a dite of a shower. Well I done up my work, ironed, finished the mincemeat, down to the camp were Bill and Betty are working. Billie to Norway, South Paris and called on Lloyd. Kimmy gone down to Debbie Woodbury’s for supper and evening.

 

 

September 16 -18, 1978 Zak's 9th Birthday Party

 

Saturday, September 16, 1978 HOTTER

 

It has been on the hot and humid side today. I have been very busy all day. Zak went home about 2 PM. It was much cooler tonight. Billie went with Lawrence in PM. Bill watched ballgame. Zak watched his programs all morning. Billie harrowed the gardens this forenoon.

 

 

 

Sunday, September 17, 1978 Zak’s birthday

 

I done my work. Then we got ready and went down to Betty’s for Zak’s birthday. He had a lot of nice gifts and was very pleased. Dorothea had a beautiful cake as usual. This year Joy’s folks were here.

Monday, September 18, 1978 ZAK schoolwork very good, RED was bred today, Kimmy sick

 

We are having some really nice sunny days. But we need rain so awful bad. I done my regular work. I washed, got other jobs, the refrigerator defrosted etc then we got ready and went down to Dorothea’s. Billie went to get his pants, but they didn’t have them. They had the wrong ones. Kimmy didn’t go to school today. After supper Betty took her to the hospital. She is quite sick with pneumonia. They didn’t keep her in the hospital. Tonight Zak brought up his school papers, they were 100 A+ very good. We are so pleased. Hope he will do well for the whole year.
