The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 26 - 27, 1994 Bridal Shower for Carmen, Birthday Party for Cameron

Sunday, June 26, 1994

A nice sunny day. Esther came over, we invited her to come over for supper, strawberries and cream, baked chicken. A very nice big good supper. Enjoyed it all very much. Well today we had a very nice shower for Carmen. It was so sunny and nice air was good, not too hot or anything. A lot of people were here. Lori, Zenya, Cindy and Kim did such a nice job at the party. Lida also helped. The food was so delicious, served on linens and China dishes. Two year old party for Cameron Alexander Crook Horton was two years old and we had a big party. It was very nice. All here except his father. He had a lot of gifts, suit and pool from Kim, Tom and I. Carmen had some nice gifts and money for her shower. Verna Martin had 50th class reunion today.

While today it was kind of cloudy and showery looking. If all goes well we are going to the airport to take Betty Milne to the plane home to Scotland that will be tomorrow.

Jason mowed today and had showers tonight. Good supper – Esther, Betty Smith, Walter, Betty Milne and Betty Crook cooked it. Billie and I too. I ate good tonight. Joy, Betty Smith, Dorothea, Betty Crook leaves tonight to say goodbye to Betty Milne. They went home early as Betty Milne had to pack her bags, her leg is bothering her too. Hope she’ll get it taken care of as soon as she goes home. I went to bed at 9 PM. Brogan and Betty stayed the night.
