Sunday, May 21, 1972

A dite cloudy this morning but it soon cleared and the sun came out and it was real hot. I washed, cleaned up the house thoroughly. I washed windows. Gave Kim a bath and shampoo. Kim went home after being here for four days and nights. Carmen played with Cathy Smith again today. Fern, Lloyd called. Also Billie Deming. Carmen and Zak up here. Jean and Stan called. Bill finished up at Helen Jones’s cottage. Betty and Walt mowed lawns for first time. Billie hauled manure for Gordon.

A beautiful day, hot. I did a little wash, done up housework. Down to Betty’s, we, Esther, Betty and I did dandelions greens for freezer. Billie to Norway, got garden seed and a couple pails for me. Bill worked at Gordon’s. Bill harrowed part of the garden. Down to Ferns after supper. Betty and Esther did Ferns light shades. Billie fixed cupboards and fixed a place for me to hang fry pans, put door screens on.

Tuesday, May 23, 1972

Another nice sunny hot day. Got my work done up and went down to Betty’s. Esther, Fern, Betty and I cleaned the two bedrooms, two hallways, bathroom and living room at Betty’s. Esther to doctors for her regular check up. Cliff goes to the hospital May 31^st. I got some more dandelions down to Betty’s. Came home, got supper.

May 17 - 20, 1972

Wednesday, May 17, 1972 Bill worked with Jones

It rained most all day. It cleared in p.m. I washed and picked the first mess of the dandelions greens. Kimmy and Zak up here. Betty quite sick today, exhaustion. Kim stayed up here tonight for supper and will stay all night. It seemed good to see the sun.

Thursday, May 18, 1972 Bill worked at Jones

Very warm. It was foggy in a.m., cleared about noon. I cleaned the breezeway. Called at Es at noon, called at Betty’s and Fern’s in evening. Kimmy up here today. She is pretty good healthwise. Betty better today.

Friday, May 19, 1972 Mowed lawns first time

A cloudy day. Betty and I to Portland to do some shopping. I got a lot groceries, much cheaper than I do in town. I went to Martin’s. We came home early. She got Carmen ready to go over to Knight’s Hill developments on a overnight camp out with the scouts. Tonight they mowed lawns for first time. Kimmy got a great big box of gifts from the Jaycee’s wives.

Saturday, May 20, 1972

A miserable day. I was very late getting around. Dorothea called. David had to take his car to garage. Jeff and a friend came, they went fishing. Esther called here, she is awfully upset. Dorothea and I went down to Betty’s. Billie, David and Betty cleaned up down back. Walt sick today. Bill worked at Helen Jones today.

May 14 - 16, 1972

Sunday, May 14, 1972 Kim back to MMC

A very mild day. Clouded up in PM. I done regular work. Dorothea and family came up. It being Mother’s Day. I got a nice plant from Billie, Dorothea and Betty. Money from Billie and Betty. We had a cookout at Betty and Walt’s, very good. Lloyd and Fern out for dinner. Dot went with them. A call from Ruth Hatch, Joy is coming along good. Kimmy not too good, sick to her stomach, same as yesterday. Betty called her doctor. He asked Betty to bring her into emergency at MM Center. It is a condition caused from the shocking experience she went through. Set out DAHLIAS and plants today etc.

Monday, May 15, 1972 Rain, Bill didn’t work all day

A rainy miserable day. I went down to Betty’s a little while. Billie and I cleaned the cellar. Betty took me to the bank. We called to see Arnold Lane. In evening I called at Betty and Walt’s. Esther was there.

Tuesday, May 16, 1972 Rain

Moderate to heavy rain. Bill worked this morning. I went down to Betty’s a little while. I done regular work. Made a pie. Also made a beef soup for supper.

May 11 - 13, 1972

Thursday, May 11, 1972 JOY OPERATED ON TODAY, Frost

It was cold with a frost this morning. A partly cloudy day with cold winds. I washed and washed. I did some more in the kitchen. I had Kimberly and Zak today. I got up early and down to Betty’s a while to get Carmen off to school. Then brought both kids up here. Today Betty, Esther, Fern and Dorothea all went to Joy’s at Brunswick to give her a day’s work. Joy was operated on. Esther told us about Cliff’s report, not too good. It is likely to lead to cancer.

Friday, May 12, 1972

A nice day, sunny but on the cool side. I did rest of the kitchen. Betty went and done my grocery shopping. Kimmy up here today while Betty took Zak to Portland for his check up. The kitchen looks very nice. I’m so glad it is done. Bill worked. Kim got tired out very quickly. She is such a nice little girl.

Saturday, May 13, 1972

A real summer day, very hot. Carmen came up. She made a Mother’s Day cake for her mother. It looks very nice. I went to town. Bill worked most all day. Billie gone with Lawrence. Joy not feeling too good as yet. Kimmy sick tonight, not too good, very white and pale.

May 8 - 10, 1972

Monday, May 8, 1972 BEEF CATTLE CAME

A beautiful day. Up early. Bill worked for Gordon. Betty, all three kids and I over to Norway to get some clothes for Carmen and sneakers for Kim and Zak. I came home (got back about 10:30) washed and cleaned Billie’s bedroom. Got supper. Kimmy came out to see the cows when Billie got here. He didn’t come until after dark tonight. Lloyd came up also. Billie finished raking for Betty. It looks very nice. Betty finished painting the trailer. She came up here. Bill got the shutters on the house after supper. Kimmy fell and hurt her on front doorsteps. Betty and Walt dropped in a minute.

Tuesday, May 9, 1972

Today I cleaned my room and the blue bathroom and little hallway. I washed, hung some things out after supper. Kimmy up here today. Bill didn’t work, he painted the window blinds. He and I went to town, Kim went too. The cows got along well today except they are a little cold. Betty, Walt and kids up tonight on the tractor. Walt built a new body for his tractor-trailer. It is nice.

Wednesday, May 10, 1972

A fair day, some sun but quite a lot of wind clouds. Today Fern came up, she helped me. We got my living room all clean. Betty had Mary Ann Western for lunch today. She called here and the kids. Kim visited a little while. Bill worked for Gordon in a.m., in p.m. he painted some more window blinds. He put some back that were all done, it looks much better. It is cold tonight.
