The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 5 - 11, 1948 Uncle Sulmore Died and Graduations



Saturday, June 5, 1948

Rained in a.m. Bill awful lame and sick. Dr. Mabry came. I cleaned sitting room. Went to town with Kennard and Delores in eve. Uncle Sulmore died. Mama up there in eve.

Sunday, June 6, 1948

Nice day. Bill’s father and mother up, Charlie and Jean called. Billie worked. Bill still lame, a little better in knees. Joy came home today.



Monday, June 7, 1948

Rained. Bill still home. Did a very big wash. Ordered flowers for Uncle Sulmore’s funeral. Dot, Blanche and I. Bill’s father and Jack got planter.



Tuesday, June 8, 1948

 Rained all day. Uncle Sulmore’s funeral. Very pretty flowers, he looked nice. I went to Weldon’s graduation with Aunt Linnie and Rayburn in eve.



Wednesday, June 9, 1948

Raining. Fern and I went to school exhibition. I churned and cooked. Bill still lame.



Thursday, June 10, 1948

Cloudy, cold. Bill a little better. Clean dining room. Fern and Lloyd up in eve, brought up Seaber check. High school graduation.



Friday, June 11, 1948

Lorraine and Sara graduated from B. J. H. S. Mama and Dorothea went. I cleaned down stairs front bedroom. Bill not quite so lame. Cloudy, cold.
