Awful hot. Mama up to Aunt Ava’s. Bill and I to town. Ruby
went home. Kids got school things. We canned. Kennie broke his foot.
Sunday, August 29, 1948
Bill and Billie led Gertie and baby up to Dick Randall’s
shorthorn bull. Cooled off today.
Monday, August 30, 1948
We canned the shell beans and washed. Cooler.
Tuesday, August 31, 1948
Cooler. Betty Smith up here and canned beans and corn.

Wednesday, September 1, 1948
Very cold and windy. Betty finished her canning. Charlie and
Grandpa called. Dot down to Fern’s and making dress.
Thursday, September 2, 1948
I washed. Not quite so cool. Dot down to Fern’s again, had
some more dresses made. I mowed (?). Pulled R. K. beans.
Friday, September 3, 1948
Joy here. Mama canned carrots. I cleaned up the house. We churned 5 pounds of butter.
