July 4 - 7, 1962

Wednesday, July 4, 1962 Independence Day

Another nice day, no rain. Bill and Billie home. Bill hauled dressing for garden. Billie worked for Lawrence Boynton haying. I put some berries in deep-freeze. I ironed. Betty was at Dawn’s. Mike and David went fishing. In evening Mama and I for a ride and to fireworks with Fern, Lloyd and Charles.

Thursday, July 5, 1962 MIKE LEFT TODAY

We washed. Mike packed. He and Betty called at Aunt Ava’s and Uncle Lewis’s. Mike and I picked five boxes the berries. About 3:30 Bill, Betty, Mike and I left for the Greyhound Bus Terminal. Mike kissed us goodbye at 5:10 and at 5:15 was on his way for Fort Lewis to be gone for over one year. Ugh. We will miss him. Five boxes berries.

Friday, July 6, 1962

Another day and no rain. Very dry and we need rain. Betty and I cleaned up the whole upstairs. I picked 3 quarts berries. To town in evening. Kay and Jerry Howard called. We bought a new insurance of Ken Proctor tonight. A hospitalization one. Miss MIKE. One day less for him. 3 quarts.

Saturday, July 7, 1962

Nice dry day. A perfect hay day, no rain, not too hot. Very good drying. I cleaned up some of the downstairs. Cooked, churned and Betty did some work up in the shed chambers. Billie and Henry Patterson hauled some hay for Billie, they ate lunch here. Betty got her first card from her husband Mike. He is sick of his duties, but he is lucky there isn’t a war and he could come home at a certain time. It is a sickening thought to have him gone.
